MANILA — Seven patients with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in San Juan are all stable, the city government said Wednesday as it urged residents to stay calm.

The 2 latest patients who tested positive for the respirator disease were a 64-year-old man from Barangay Greenhills and a 28-year-old woman from Barangay Maytunas, who are both in a private hospital in Pasig, the local government said in an advisory.

San Juan's first 5 patients include the following, it added:

  • a couple, 70 and 69, from Barangay Greenhills who recently traveled to Bali, Indonesia and currently confined at a Parañaque hospital;
  • a 72-year-old man from Barangay Little Baguio with no travel history, did not visit a virus-hit area and confined at a Pasig hospital;
  • 30-year-old woman from Barangay Corazon de Jesus being treated in Manila;
  • 51-year-old woman from Barangay Corazon de Jesus with possible close contact to a patient;

"All patients are showing symptoms but are in stable condition," the local government said in an advisory posted on Facebook.

It also noted that 80 percent of cases recorded worldwide are mild, 15 percent are moderate to severe, and only 5 percent are critical.

"Most people recover from the virus," said the San Juan government.

City authorities will help the health department trace those who had close contact with the patients.

The advisory urged residents to disinfect homes and workspaces with bleach diluted with water.

"Let us all stay calm and undertake all precautionary measures in order for COVID-19 not to spread," said the city government.

The Philippines so far confirmed 33 cases of COVID-19 that emerged in China late last year. President Rodrigo Duterte declared Monday a state of public health emergency to arrest its spread.
