70,000 cops deployed, PNP on ‘full alert’ for holiday season

MANILA — Nearly 70,000 police officers will be deployed to intensify security operations during the holiday season as the Philippine National Police (PNP) raised full alert status, its spokesman said Sunday.

The full alert status will be effective starting Sunday until January 5, 2020, according to PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac.

Police visibility will be heightened in churches in light of the Simbang Gabi, which will start Monday, he added.

Banac appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any illegal or suspicious activity in their communities. — Bianca Dava, ABS-CBN News
