MANILA – Jeepney driver Elmer Cordero, 72, was released on bail on Tuesday night, a week after he and 5 other jeepney drivers were arrested in Caloocan City for protesting a government ban on jeepney operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Another jeepney driver Wilson Ramilla was also released from detention by police.

Cordero, Ramilla and four other members of transport group Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON) were apprehended last June 2 for allegedly violating quarantine protocols while taking part in a protest action in Monumento, Caloocan City.

Judge Gloria Santos of Caloocan City Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 51 ordered the Caloocan City police to release Cordero after the detainee posted the P10,000 bond.
