MANILA – The Philippines is already conducting 6,320 tests daily for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the Department of Health (DOH) said Tuesday, as the country hopes to expand its testing capacity to 8,000 by end of April.
“Sa kasalukuyan, ang ating 19 na lisensiyadong COVID laboratories ay may pinagsamang testing capacity na aabot sa 6,320 tests kada araw,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a televised briefing.
(At present, our 19 licensed COVID laboratories have a combined testing capacity of 6,320 tests daily.)
“Ginagawa ng kagawaran ang lahat ng makakaya nito upang paigtingin pa natin ang ating testing capacity,” she added.
(The agency is doing all it can to increase our testing capacity.)
To boost the country’s testing capacity, the government is procuring additional equipment and supplies, hiring more health workers such as laboratory technicians, and fast-tracking the certification of COVID-19 laboratories, among others.

- Southern Philippines Medical Center
- St. Luke’s Medical Center-BGC
- UP National Institutes of Health
- Western Visayas Medical Center
- San Lazaro Hospital
- St. Luke’s Medical Center-Quezon City
- Makati Medical Center
- Chinese General Hospital
- The Medical City
- Detoxicare Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory
- Bicol Regional Diagnostic and Reference Laboratory
- V. Luna Hospital
- Philippine Genome Center
- Philippine Red Cross in Mandaluyong City
As of Monday, April 27, the Philippines has tested 84,738 individuals, of whom, 74,743 tested negative while 9,858 tested positive.
“Muli, lilinawin po natin na ang total positive tests ay maaaring mas mataas kaysa total confirmed cases dahil ito ay dumadaan pa sa case validation and processing,” Vergerie said.
To date, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country is 7,958, of whom 530 died while 975 recovered.
