MANILA — The total number of Filipinos overseas who have been infected with the novel coronavirus has reached 5,392 after the Department of Foreign Affairs announced 24 new infections on Sunday.
Of the total, 2,231 have recovered and 370 others died. The remaining 2,791 cases are still active or recovering, the DFA said.
The foreign office said the Middle East has the highest recorded Filipino COVID-19 cases with more than 3,300. The region also has the highest number of recovered Filipino coronavirus patients, with more than 1,300.
The Americas, meanwhile, still have the highest number of Filipino fatalities with 152.

On Sunday, the Philippines confirmed 555 more novel coronavirus infections, bringing the nationwide total to 21,895.
Of the total, 1,003 died and 4,530 others survived.
Since its first emergence in China, the deadly coronavirus has infected more than 6.6 million people worldwide, killing over 392,000, according to the World Health Organization.
