MANILA – The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) will issue this week "love letters" or show-cause orders against town and city officials who failed to clear streets of illegal vendors and improperly parked vehicles in their respective areas.
"'Pag lumabas sa classification namin o rating na kulang or bagsak, o failed kumbaga [ang mga local officials], unang gagawin namin eh mag show-cause kami," Interior Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya told radio DZMM Tuesday.
"Sinabi na ni [DILG] Sec. Año 'to. Ngayong linggo kami maglalabas ng show-cause [orders]," he confirmed.
Malaya said Año will give the order on Wednesday to issue memoranda against local officials who failed to follow the 60-day span given by the DILG last July 29 to explain their failure to comply.
Marikina was the first to complete in reclaiming public roads, drawing praises from the DILG.
The memorandum to all local government units in the country to clear road obstructions and improve traffic flows stems from President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive in his last State of the Nation Address.
