The province of Camarines Norte in the Bicol Region remains COVID-19 free as of Wednesday due to people's compliance with the government's efforts to stop the spread of the virus.
"Yung mga kababayan namin dito talagang sumunod sila sa mga instruction and at the same time, kung ano yung mga ipinapatupad namin dito. Disiplinado yung mga tao," said Atty. Don Culvera, spokesperson and commander of the Incident Management Team of the province.
The local government set up border control checkpoints before the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon was implemented.
"So lahat po ng tao dito na pumasok, lumabas ay nabantayan po namin and namonitor. Karamihan ay naisailalim sa 14-day mandatory quarantine. Talagang naisip namin na lahat ng manggagaling sa ibang lugar na papasok sa Camarines Norte is dumaan sa 14-day quarantine," said Culvera.
Now that the province is under a general community quarantine, new guidelines are strictly implemented to maintain its virus-free status.
"Mas lalo po namin pinahigpit pa rin yung checkpoints sa dalawang borders and sinunod namin yung paggamit po ng quarantine pass. Ibig sabihin, isang tao rin per household ang puwede pa rin lumabas ng bahay para bumili ng pangangailangan. Ang talagang nadagdag lang po ay yung mga empleyado," he said.
Limited public transportation and economic activities also resumed under GCQ.
"Medyo malaki yung epekto sa ekonomiya ng lalawigan po yung nangyaring ito lalong-lalo na sa aming tourism industry kasi hanggang ngayon kahit GCQ na, sarado po lahat ng aming tourist destination," he added.
Culvera also said their COVID-19 referral center, Labo District Hospital, is ready in case a patient is tested positive for the virus.
