MANILA — The number of health workers infected with COVID-19 since the start of the outbreak has reached 3,360, according to the latest report of the Department of Health.

This is as of June 27 and is 14 cases higher than the day before.

The report released on Sunday late evening also recorded 2,515 total recovered patients, which is 32 recoveries higher than the day before.

The number of deaths stayed at 33. The last reported death was as of June 10.

This means that the active cases — those who are still in hospitals or undergoing home quarantine — are at 812.

Of the 34,802 total confirmed cases in the Philippines as of June 27, 1 in 10 are health workers.

Of all the confirmed cases, 1,207 are nurses, 842 are doctors, 230 are nursing assistants, 135 are medical technologists, 52 are midwives, 33 are respiratory therapists, 21 are pharmacists. There are also 218 administrative staff working in health facilities, 97 utility workers, 53 dietary staff, 37 drivers, 34 barangay health workers, 19 security guards and 12 caregivers.

At the onset of the outbreak, a larger percentage of health workers were being infected by COVID-19. The DOH acknowledged that was partly because of the shortage in personal protective equipment. However, the DOH has also attributed it to community transmission since many health workers still go home to their houses.

The DOH has since said the situation has improved.

The families of the 33 health workers who died received P1 million in cash as benefit while at least 19 of those who became severely ill received P100,000.
