MANILA – The Department of Justice on Thursday filed charges against Daraga, Albay Mayor Carlwyn Baldo and 6 others who were tagged in the murder of Ako Bicol Partylist Rep. Rodel Batocabe.
Baldo was charged with 2 counts of murder and 6 counts of frustrated murder at the Legazpi Regional Trial Court, OIC Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon said.
The other suspects were Christopher Naval, Emmanuelle Roselle, Jaywin Babor, Henry Tyson, and Rolando Arimado, he said.
A certain Danilo Luella was also charged as accomplice for the murder, he said.
The case is expected to be raffled Thursday afternoon, Fadullon said.
"Murder is a non-bailable offense. Even if 6 counts of attempted murder is bailable they still will not be allowed to post bail kasi may 2 kaso [ng murder]," Fadullon said.
Batocabe, who was also running for Daraga mayor, was gunned down in the Bicol town on December 22 after he attended a gift-giving event for senior citizens.
His police escort, PO1 Orlando Diaz, also died in the incident.
A witness, Emmanuel Judavar, surrendered to police on December 29 and identified the suspects.
In his affidavit, Judavar said he was part of the early stages of planning of Batocabe's assassination but he backed out when they had a falling out about money. Police has since said Judavar will get the P50 million reward.
