Two aides of President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday will look into the spike of coronavirus disease cases in Leyte, the interior department said.
The Visayas province's 80-day streak of zero-COVID cases broke 2 weeks ago when repatriated migrant workers and residents stranded in other areas started returning after lockdowns eased, Ormoc Mayor Richard Gomez said.
Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said he and National Task Force Against COVID-19 chief implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. would fly to Leyte and talk with officials there.
"Titingnan natin iyong actual situation on the ground at kung ano rin ang kaya nating maitutulong sa Leyte," he told ABS-CBN's TeleRadyo.
"Maghihigpit din tayo ngayon sa LSI (locally stranded individuals)," he added.
(We will look at the actual situation on the ground and how we can help Leyte… We will also be stricter with locally stranded individuals.)
