MANILA (2nd UPDATE) – Some 100 people were rushed to hospitals for suspected food poisoning Wednesday after attending an event that is part of the 90th birthday celebration of former First Lady Imelda Marcos in Pasig City, local officials said.

The patients experienced stomach ache and vomiting at the event at the Ynares Sports Center around 11 a.m., said the Pasig command center.

The 2,500 attendees were served packed lunches of adobo with potatoes and egg, said Barangay Oranbo Chairman Richard Pua.

"Hanggang ngayon po naghahatid pa ng mga tao [sa ospital]… Siguro, may 100 plus na," he told radio DZMM around 1:30 p.m.

(Until now, people are still being brought to the hospital. Perhaps, there are around a hundred already.)

Marcos' daughter, Sen. Imee Marcos, said the food may have gone bad because it had been at the venue since morning.

She promised to visit all those stricken with food poisoning.

"Narito iyung nanay ko. Sa sobrang excited nitong lola natin, e mukhang hindi pa araw narito na, mukhang nagkapanis-panis na 'yung pagkain. Gayunpaman, solid na solid pa rin. Asikasuhin na lang natin iyung mga nasa ospital at asahan po ninyong bibisitahin natin ang bawat isa," said the lawmaker.

(My mother is here. Due to her excitement, she was here even before dawn, the food appears to have gone bad. Despite this, it's still solid. Let's just take care of those at the hospital and you can expect that we would visit each of them.)
