MATAPOS ang unity ride ng mahigit 10,000 motorcycle rider, mistulang lumambot si Senador Richard Gordon sa kanyang posisyon sa ‘Doble Plaka Law’ makaraang pagsabihan nito ang Land Transportation Office (LTO) na maging maingat sa pagbalangkas ng Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) ng batas.
Binigyang-diin ni Gordon, author at sponsor ng Republic Act 11235 o ang Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act, hindi dapat mailayo ang IRR sa tunay na layunin ng batas na protektahan ang mamamayan sa kriminalidad na ginagamitan ng motorsiklo.
“The government is now taking action against riding-in-tandem crimes with the enactment of this law. We should not let this law die because of poor implementation that is why the LTO should do the IRR properly. The IRR is not law-making. It is just an explanation of how the law will be implemented,” saad ni Gordon.
Susulat aniya siya sa LTO upang ipanukala na makasama siya sa pagbalangkas ng IRR upang maayos itong magawa.
“I have been in discussion with the LTO since the inception of this bill. However, laws die in the implementation.
Therefore, the LTO must be careful in writing the IRR. As the principal author and sponsor, I would like to help the Committee which will draft the IRR to make sure that it reflects the genuine spirit of the law,” diin ni Gordon.
Nasa 10,000 hanggang 50,000 motorcycle rider ang nakiisa sa Unity Ride sa People Power Monument sa Whiteplains, Quezon City nitong Linggo, Marso 24 upang ilabas ang kanilang hinaing laban sa bagong batas.
Binanatan din nila si Gordon sa pagbuo ng batas laban sa kanila gayung hindi naman anila ito rider kasabay ng pagbabanta sa mga mambabatas na lumagda sa batas na makukuha ang kanilang paghihiganti sa panahon ng eleksyon.
