MANILA — The House of Representatives will not withdraw its enrolled copy of the 2019 budget, contrary to the the claim of a member and Sen. Panfilo Lacson, Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo said Tuesday.
Lacson said San Juan Rep. Ronaldo Zamora said Monday that House leaders have greenlighted the withdrawal of the House's budget version over allegations that it was riddled with insertions that favored some of Arroyo's allies.
Arroyo denied this, saying that lump sums in the bicameral budget report earlier approved by both chambers of Congress are unconstitutional.
Lawmakers were still discussing the proposed new budget version, she told reporters at the sidelines of a mining industry event.
The government is currently running on a reenacted budget.
More details to follow.
