Jaywalkers Beware: LGUs Deputize MMDA to Implement Anti-Jaywalking Ordinance

4 years ago 0 Comments

Keep walking. But in the right places.

Metro Manila mayors have deputized the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to enforce anti-jaywalking ordinances within their jurisdiction.

With that, MMDA personnel will now implement local government units’ traffic management code or ordinance regarding anti-jaywalking not just on major thoroughfares but also on Mabuhay Lanes.

During the Metro Manila Council meeting, MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim and LGU officials agreed that MMDA personnel will undergo a seminar to familiarize them of the LGUs’ respective ordinances concerning anti-jaywalking.

Currently, the MMDA has its own anti-jaywalking policy, with teams enforcing the rule. Jaywalkers will receive citation tickets with corresponding PHP500 fine or render community service.

Right now, Metro Manila mayors have yet to sign the approved resolution and publish it in major newspapers before its implementation.
