The mayor of Caba town in La Union and his councilor wife have tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the latter said in a social media post.

Caba Councilor Donna Crispino said she and her husband, Caba mayor Philip Crispino, went on self-quarantine after testing positive for the virus.

Donna said she and her husband are "stable" and apologized to those who they came in contact with from February 2020.

In a phone interview with ABS-CBN News, Donna said she and her husband at first felt throat irritations and did not expect it to be COVID-19.

"Yung sintomas 'di siya kumpleto. Like me wala akong fever. I had headache, body pain, 'yung una ganun. Tapos sumunod na lang 'yung sipon. Parang it lasted for 5 days,” Donna said.

(The symptoms were not complete. Like me, I had no fever. I had headache, body pain, at first it was that. Then I had a cold. It lasted for 5 days.)

They immediately informed their health officer and were considered "persons under investigation."

The couple was recently in Manila for the Philippine Councilor's League last February 26, where they believe they had contracted the disease.

Contact tracing is underway for those who they may have socialized with over the course of the period.

Both officials called on to the public to cooperate in order to prevent the spread of the virus, which has infected 262 in the country.
