MANILA—Two weather disturbances continue to advance toward the country as Christmas nears and are expected to bring rainshowers, the state weather bureau said Saturday.

The low-pressure area (LPA) currently inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) is already affecting Eastern Visayas, Caraga and the Davao region, the PAGASA said in its 4 p.m. bulletin.

It was last spotted 280 kilometers southeast of Hinatuan town, Surigao del Sur, bringing light to moderate rains to affected areas.

Residents in these areas living in low and mountainous places are advised to watch out for floods and landslides.

The LPA, however, is not expected to intensify, the PAGASA said.

Meanwhile, a tropical depression outside the PAR continues to barrel toward the country. It was last spotted 1,810 km east of Mindanao packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kms per hour (kph) near the center and 70 kph gusts.

It was last seen moving east northeast at 10 kph.

The PAGASA said it is projected to enter the PAR between Sunday night and Monday morning.

If it enters the PAR, the weather disturbance will be named Ursula, the weather agency said, becoming the 21st storm to enter the country this year.

If it does not change direction, it is expected to make landfall over Eastern Visayas and Caraga by Christmas, said the PAGASA.

Moderate to heavy rainshowers are expected to fall over affected areas on Christmas Eve, Tuesday.

Residents are advised to stay alert because of the expected rainfall.

On Sunday, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora and Quezon will experience cloudy skies with isolated rains and thunderstorms.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, meanwhile, can expect fair weather except for few isolated rains and thunderstorms, the PAGASA said.

Eastern Visayas will also have cloudy skies, scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the LPA. The rest of the Visayas, meanwhile, will have fair weather.

Caraga and the Davao region, due to the LPA, will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers. Residents in affected areas are advised to stay alert for probable floods and landslides in low and mountainous places.

The rest of Mindanao will have fair weather except for isolated rains and thunderstorms, the PAGASA said.
