MANILA – Candidates should be role models for their constituents, an election officer said Monday.
This, after a candidate for board member in Camiling, Tarlac punched and threatened a local election officer.
"Magbehave kayo. Kasi you present yourself sa mga tao na magagaling kayo na mga tao, mababait kayo, magagalang kayo sa mga ina ninyo, and then there you are, violent kayo, bastos kayo, you have no regard for the law, you do not respect election officers," Commissioner Rowena Guanzon told DZMM Teleradyo.
(You should behave. You present yourself to the public that you are good people, you are nice, you are respectful to your parents, and then there you are, you are violent, you are rude, you have no regard for the law, you do not respect election officers.)
"Bakit kayo tumakbo? Ayaw niyo pala na you are under our authority or under the law," she added.
(Why did you run for office if you don't want to be under our authority or under the law.)
Atty. Marty Torralba, who is running for board member in the first district of Camiling, punched and threatened election officer Teddy Mariano last Saturday after poll officials held an Oplan Baklas, where Torralba's campaign slogan, which was painted on a wall, was removed.
Torralba said he punched Mariano because he felt what Comelec did to his campaign slogan was unfair.
