MANILA – All mild and asymptomatic COVID-19 patients under home quarantine in areas under localized lockdown will be transferred to government facilities to stem community transmission, the vice chair of the National Task Force against the pandemic said Wednesday.

Some 200 virus patients are expected to be transferred to local and national isolation facilities, said Interior Secretary Eduardo Año.

Local officials and health officers will be accompanied by policemen in inspecting every house and bringing in patients, he said.

"Importante kasi ito dahil ang paglaganap ng COVID-19 nagaganap sa community dahil hindi naman nasusunod ang proper na pag-home quarantine," he told ABS-CBN's Teleradyo.

(This is important because COVID-19 spreads through the community because proper home quarantine is not observed.)

"Ito lang ang tanging nakita nating paraan para mastop 'yung transmission sa community."

(This is the only way we can stop community transmission.)

Government earlier said COVID-19 patients with mild or no symptoms in Cebu City underwent self-isolation without observing proper protocols, which led to the city's surge in virus cases.

Mild and asymptomatic COVID-19 patients may be allowed to stay home if they have their own rooms, their own bathrooms, and if they do not have any family member who are sick, vulnerable, pregnant, or elderly, according to Año.

The local government will also look into reports of suspected patients, Año said, citing Republic Act 1132 or the Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act.
