MANILA — Camp Karingal, the headquarters of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), was placed on a 3-day lockdown after several cops and a soldier tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The lockdown began at 5 p.m. on Saturday after it was found that 13 policemen and one soldier were infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the respiratory illness, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said Monday.

The soldier was a member of Joint Task Force-National Capital Region, 10 of the cops were assigned at Camp Karingal, while 3 were designated in various Quezon City police community precints, according to the NCRPO.

Target group testing was conducted from April 25 to 29 on 219 personnel inside the camp. An initial 115 results were released while 104 are still pending, the NCRPO said.

The lockdown was implemented to trace and isolate those who may have made contact with the positive patients, who were already placed in a special care facility, according to the NCRPO.

Camp Karingal will also undergo decontamination during the lockdown period.

The NCRPO added that they will also "determine and assess those who will be recommended and prioritized to undergo nasopharyngeal swab test" and implement measures to prevent the spread of the virus to other police personnel.
