Sega announced on Wednesday that it is developing a new PlayStation 4 game in the Yakuza (Ryū ga Gotoku) series with the character Ichiban Kasuga as the new protagonist. The production is also accepting applications to audition for a female character who will be Kasuga's friend throughout the game. Sega describes the character as "main character level," and it is the first time Sega is holding an audition for the series for this level of a role.
Aside from voicing the character in the game, the winner of the audition will also be part of the promotional campaign for the new game, and will receive 1 million yen (about US$9,000) as a bonus cash prize.
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, the latest numbered game in the series, launched on the PS4 in Japan in December 2016 and launched in North America in April 2018.
Sega's Yakuza Online (Ryū ga Gotoku Online) game launched for iOS and Android devices and on PC last November.
While Kazuma Kiryū's story ended with Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, Yakuza Online started a "New Yakuza" series with Ichiban Kasuga as the protagonist. Kazuhiro Nakaya voices the character. Sega stated in August 2017 that it planned to continue the "New Yakuza" series with console games after Yakuza Online launched.
<!–Sega released Yakuza Kiwami, a full remake of the original Yakuza (Ryū ga Gotoku) game, in Japan for PS3 and PS4 in January 2016. Sega then released the game in English on PS4 in August 2017. The game released on PC on February 19. Sega released Yakuza Kiwami 2, a similar remake of Yakuza 2, in Japan for the PS4 in December 2017, and released the game in English last August.
The PlayStation 4 version of the Yakuza 4 (Ryū ga Gotoku 4: Densetsu o Tsugumono) game launched in Japan on January 17. Sega originally released Yakuza 4 in Japan in 2010 and in the West in 2011. Sega released the Yakuza 3 (Ryū ga Gotoku 3) game on PS4 in Japan on August 9.
Sega is also releasing Yakuza 5 on the PS4. The company released Yakuza 5 (Ryū ga Gotoku 5: Yume, Kanaeshi Mono) in Japan in 2012 and in the West in 201–>
