Southern Leyte Road Maintenance Works Ongoing

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is currently conducting intensified road maintenance works in Southern Leyte.

The said program is eyed to increase the road condition rating, which was already at 96.55 percent as of last year.

The said program is meant to cover 299 kilometers of national roads, 155 bridges, and other infrastructure in Southern Leyte.

In a statement, Public Works Secretary Mark Villar commended the intensified road maintenance activities currently being conducted along national roads and bridges by the DPWH Southern Leyte District Engineering Office (SLDEO).

Villar cited the report from DPWH-SLDEO District Engineer Ma. Margarita Junia stating that crew of the Department are working even on weekends to check road damages, clean bridges, undertake vegetation control on roadsides, and clear the drainage system of national highways from silt in the province.

“We recognize every effort of our hardworking crew to ensure roads are safe and convenient for the traveling public,” Villar said.

According to District Engineer Junia, DPWH-SLDEO has also acquired last year a total of nine chariot-type service crew vehicles to help boost the agency’s capability to finish the project.

“With those vehicles for our maintenance point persons, we were able to promptly respond in restoring road defects such as potholes, alligator cracks, major, scaling, shoving and corrugation, pumping and depression, faded road markings, inverted shoulder, lush vegetation, clogged drains, and open manholes,”  Junia said.

DPWH-SLDEO aims to surpass last year’s 96.55 percent road condition. The rating was last assessed by the DPWH Bureau of Maintenance (BOM) with the assessment being done every two years.
