Game developer Grounding announced on Thursday that it is developing Space Channel 5 VR Kinda Funky News Flash!, a new game based on Sega's Space Channel 5 game with virtual reality (VR) features compatible with the PlayStation VR. The game is not a port of the original game, but a new version of the game with new characters, graphics, and features.
The game is recreating the original game's characters and levels. The team is currently seeking to contact actress Apollo Smile, who voiced the game's main character Ulala in the original game.
The game will have new main characters named Lou and Kee (seen above), who are rookie reporters working for Ulala. The player will control these characters in the new game. The game will introduce a new "striking pose" mechanic that can allow the characters to dodge enemy beams with a pose.
The game has a demo available at the PlayStation booth at the PAX East event, which is ongoing from Thursday to Sunday.
Grounding previously developed a Space Channel 5 VR experience titled Space Channel 5 VR: Ukiuki Viewing Show that debuted at Tokyo Game Show in 2016, playable with the HTC Vive device.
