MANILA – The Social Security System on Thursday warned the public against a phishing scheme that attempts to collect information to allegedly update membership records.

The fraudulent phishing activity involves individuals pretending to be SSS employees who are reaching out to unsuspecting members to request information such their mobile numbers and email addresses, the SSS said in an advisory.

The SSS will never secure personal information through direct request via email, SMS, phone calls or via social media, the statement said.

"These scams are attempts to compromise the security of your SSS account," the pension fund said in an advisory.

"Please remain vigilant and avoid disclosing your personal information to unverified sources," it said.

Transactions should be done in official branches and accredited partner agents or through online self-service facilities, the SSS said.
