The official Twitter account for honeybee's Starry Sky franchise revealed on Sunday that the franchise is getting a stage play titled Starry☆Sky on STAGE. The play will run at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel's Club eX in Tokyo from July 10-15.
The play is part of the franchise's 10th anniversary project. Fumiya Matsuzaki (A3!, Mobile Suit Gundam 00 stage plays) is directing the play, and Iyo Nishikōri (The Morose Mononokean stage play) is writing the scripts.
The Starry Sky otome game and drama CD project revolves around 13 young men whose characters represent the attributes of the Zodiac signs (including the 13th sign Ophiuchus). A 26-episode anime adaptation debuted in 2010 on Animate.tv. Hal Minagawa penned a manga adaptation, and Digital Manga licensed the series in 2011. The franchise has also inspired several games.
<!–JAST USA head Peter Payne explained in 2014 that it is unlikely it will license Starry Sky due to the high cost of licensing fees for the voice cast. Payne elaborated that the situation extends to most otome games (games aimed at female players).–>
Asgard, the company that owned the honeybee label that managed the franchise, dissolved on January 4.
