KINUMPIRMA ni US Vice President Mike Pence ang planong pagpapadalang muli ng Estados Unidos ng mga astronaut sa buwan sa loob ng limang taon.
“It is the stated policy of this administration and the United States of America to return American astronauts to the Moon, within the next five years,” pahayag ni Pence sa isang talumpati sa Huntsville, Alabama.
“Let me be clear, the first woman and the next man on the Moon will both be American astronauts launched by American rockets from American soil,” dagdag ng US VP.
Ang unang Moon mission sa halos kalahati ng siglo ay nakatakda sa taong 2028.
Gayunman ay naharap ang programa sa iba’t ibang pagkaantala dahil sa pag-develop ng bagong heavy rocket sa moon mission. Ang unang flight ay naunang itinulak sa 2021.
“Urgency must be our watchword. Failure to achieve our goal to return an American astronaut to the Moon in the next five years is not an option,” ayon pa kay VP Pence.
Nauna nang sinabi ni NASA chief, Jim Bridenstine na walang duda na isang babae ang unang taong tutungtong sa buwan simula noong 1972.
